Saturday, September 17, 2005.

I've collected all the Media links together into one grid on the Links page under Media.

I slept until 8:00 and then started cleaning up the kitchen again.  Those roofers better show up today...

My friend Sonjia sent me an email the other day, part of which was this:

We made some pumpkin bread yesterday. Julia wanted to send some to "Mommy's friend who got hurt by the storm" but she couldn't figure out how to put it in an envelope (she tried really hard). So she ate it for you. Ah, three-year olds.

History of New Orleans video is available in the Media links.

Still no roofers...  I gave 'em a call.  They say I'm still on the schedule...

***

Picked up some pictures here and there.  This one is from Lake St. Catherine, where 90 percent of all lake camps are gone.  If you are familiar with New Orleans and the Lake Catherine area, this is really sad and really funny at the same time.

The Buras water tower didn't make it.  Of course, Buras didn't make it.  WAY down river...

The water line on the levee at lake Pontchatrain behind my in-law's house.

This is just down the street from me.  The guys from the Beer and Gun club put up a sign.

Somebody sent me this one.  Santa Claus as Terminator doesn't really work...

***

Since my power vent top was torn away in the storm, I decided to do something clever and fix it with a garbage can lid from inside the attic.  Success!  Of course, now one of my garbage cans doesn't have a lid...

I took another shot of my fence while I was at it:

It rained again this afternoon, and while I caught most of the water in pans, pots, buckets, and tubs in the attic, the ceiling in the upstairs bedroom managed to fall in.  Evidently the light was just screwed into the sheetrock, and when the light filled up with water, it pulled the ceiling out.  I kind of like those lights...

And, of course, more water came cascading down the wall.  I've always wanted an indoor waterfall, but this isn't what I had in mind.

5:15 PM

Still no roofer.  Greg from Landrew Brothers Construction called me and told me that he would definitely have the crew here today or tomorrow morning (Sunday).  15 minutes later, someone else called me back and said that someone would be out on Monday.  I'm starting to get pretty pissed off about it.

I got back up on the roof and put the small vent cap back on the pipe vent on the lower part of my roof.  I got back up there again, but there really isn't anything I can do without a lot more gear than I have.  If I ever move out of this house, I'll never have a roof this steep again.  Even if it was 8/12 or 10/12 instead of 12/12, it would make a big difference.

Got an email from Adrian of Adrian's Tree Service.

"I'm BAAAACK! But, we've been looted and plundered and me crew is asunder. I'm working alone, hoping for the Marien from Montana to come down next week. I'll get there soon as I can. Good thing, FEMS will haul the trash, so I don't need to."
