IALEFI 2007
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS
MONDAY, 21 MAY 2007
On Monday morning the opening ceremonies were held. After that, Dr. Williams gave his excellent presentation on Tactical Anatomy. I didn't have my camera for either of those events, but I did remember to bring it in the afternoon to the range for the Memorial Match. The vendors had also set up at the range so we had an opportunity to examine and fire a number of different firearms. Peter and I separated as he had to attend the instructor meetings and I had to attend the Safety Check. While I found the Safety Check easy, I can understand the necessity of it when there are so many shooters about and nobody knows who has what training.
It rained on us quite a bit, but as nobody was made out of sugar, nobody melted.
I did take the time to smell the flowers.
I wonder how the gas mileage is in this thing...
Peter waits his turn at the Memorial Match. Two targets were set up, and the course of fire was two shots in each target from left of cover, two shots while moving to right cover, and then two shots in each target from right of cover. Peter ran the course in 18 seconds, but I was excited and shot more than I should have. Well, they said you could shoot as much as you wanted...but that put me past 20 seconds.
I made an error on the camera settings and the high speed sequence I shot of Peter's run was over exposed. I did manage to save this image, which is kind of neat.
Peter and I wandered over to the sub-gun match, which was a single target course requiring three head shots then a 23 shot string - no more than two bursts - in full auto.
I got a nice shot of Frank, a Caddo Parish officer, during his turn.

Full auto. Not sure what it's for, but the rules of life say that
whenever you have a chance to fire full auto with someone else's ammo, you
should take the opportunity. I found that foregrip way too far
forward...
Same thing is true for sub-gun - failure to shoot someone else's ammo is some kind of gunfighting sin or something. That's me during the match taking the head shots. Here's a video. Somehow it managed to get sideways... Sub-gun Match Video If the video does not play, right click on the link and select 'SAVE TARGET AS', save the video and run it from your hard drive.
Match winning target and scores for the subgun match are below. I'm 49. Peter is 72. So much for subgun... I don't have match results for the Sig Arms match yet.
