On Tuesday, my first class is Peter Burlingame's Shooting Instruction Priorities.  The course blurb is:

Training must be outcome based.  Our goal must be to have our people walk away from a lethal force encounter as winners.  Examine what skills are necessary for this to happen.  Lear how you can easily, inexpensively, and safely modify your current firearms training curriculum.  Give your people the time they need to learn the skills required to win.  This live fire class will give you a hands on opportunity to try the techniques presented.  Student Requirements: Duty gear and weapons and 3 magazines.

We arrive early, but there is some confusion about which range is which and which range we are actually supposed to be on.  The lamentation, "A map!  A map!  My kingdom for a map!", is frequently heard.  That was, in fact, my primary 'complaint' about the conference - that initial organization seemed poor as far as the range was concerned.  I don't get to complain long, though, because it was all ironed out by the afternoon.  Lots of people are on top of the situation and resolve it quickly.

Unfortunately, we loose a lot of time moving the portable barricades I had fabricated for Peter's class.  Eventually, though, we get it together even though Peter had to hustle through the morning class in order to cover his material.

I missed much of the lecture because I was setting up target boards and targets, but the class centered around the idea of incorporating movement and other priorities into shooting drills.  This was something that I have been exposed to for some time since Peter is my primary firearms instructor...  Peter makes it fun, and I think that if you aren't having fun during training then you're probably doing it wrong - so I was pretty happy.

'Toe-to-Toe' balloon drills.  Last one.  I could have gotten a better angle, but then I'd have been past the firing line and the safety rules frown on that for some reason...
